An underpainting drawing for the new issue of “An Army of Lovers” debuting at this year’s CAKE. This one gets spread across two pages so the center, gutter area is a little bare. Lots of watercolor paint and little flying debris things to come. Other changes likely.
A new paper cut, vertical landscape for Friday, and for the Moon. Light Boats are partially invisible.
By request! Here are some proper photos of work I keep hanging in my art studio for inspiration. They are by my good friend Patrick Tianen. Many years ago, we planned to make a zine called DemonGun that chronicled the adventures of a variety of characters. Today, I keep the fire of the idea burning with my humble 12-page, autobio, monthly minicomic series. Patrick is also responsible for my interest in drawing comics. These are very important paintings to me :)
I just received a brand new self-published Bernie McGovern book collecting the first run of his DemonDust series! Looks great. It’ll debut at CAKE. Keep your eyes peeled.
I thought I would share a bizarre note I once found in Chicago somewhere. Below it, you may find what I keep it as inspiration in my art studio. Observe the badass Hic & Hoc postcard by Alabaster, the teeny portrait of Josef Manner inventor of the Manner Wafer, and a ten year old painting by my good friend Patrick Tianen behind the lamp. Must draw!
Getting ready for CAKE coming up June 15 & 16th here in Chicago. The old Trubble Club Sackley puppet should be tabling with some Trubblers, hopefully not too far from my table. It’s great, because as you can see Sackley’s been cooped up too long.
Paper piece: “Man of No Memory, All Muscle and Blood,” with some reference to power efficient light bulbs, nightmare bullies, and general tingles of alienation. Paper’s great, I just love paper.
